Don tells us about this "Troop effort":
I am a scoutmaster for a troop of Boy Scouts in Jasonville Indiana.  We are a small troop in a small town.   I have several kids 14 - 16 years old.  They were geting more interested in cars and girls than in camping and merit badges.  These kids were getting ready to quit scouting.  Most were from one parent families and I needed something to get their interest.  A friend ?, gave me a 1948 Pontiac 4-door sedan and told me it would be easy to fix up.  I told these kids it was their car to fix up and over the last few months they have been working on the car.  They have taken their time and are learning a lot about cars.  My problem is I’m not a car person, if the car doesn’t start when I turn the key, I’m done.  But working with several people in the area the kids and I are learning a lot.  We are planning on working on the car over the next eightteen months.  We work a little and then read manuls and books on the next stage and go on.  It's been nice watching the kids work on a project that is interesting and fun for them.  We have just now taken the body from the frame and are getting ready to pull the engine and work on it.  If anyone has any information or ideas please contact me, cause we can sure use the help.  If anyone has any pictures of 48s that could help.  The vehicle we have, we believe was gray.  Thanks for the information I was able to get from this site.
Don-(Glad to be here to help you in a great effort. Sounds like you are right on track!)

About the Pontiac:
This car has an eight cyl. engine although it was originaly intended as a six cyl. It also has an automatic transmission.
Keep us posted on your progress. A frame-off is a lot of work! It sounds like you have enough help and enthusiasm to get it done. Can you send some helpers out to California to finish mine? -Good Luck
