Joe tells us about his Pontiac:
"Basically, I got it off of a guy who had it sitting in his
woods (I livein Alaska). It had been sitting there since it was stuck,
back in the '50s. It had been sitting so long that there was a tree
growing insideof it! The last time it was registered was3/12/56 (Alaska
was still a territory!). The speedometer was smashed (which is fixed)
as well as a lot of glass. After my wife and I put some tires on
it (we used some from a 73 Pontiac Catalina), we used some tow straps and
a lot of work to get it out of the woods. After we got it out of
the woods we towed it home. During the ride the drivers front wheel
castle nut came off, so off went the tire. We finally called a tow
truck and had them get it home. Anyway, I took it apart and have very slowly
been working on it."
Joe tells us about bringing his Pontiac home:
" The mechanical is good, but the body is in very poor
condition. So I just don't know what I'm going to do with it.
I hate to get rid of it (as it is a rare vehicle, but with the body tub
in as bad of condition as it is, well..... As far as the condition,
I am missing the distributor, and various other parts. There is a
lot of rust on the bottom (as a result of sitting in the woods).
The frame is sound, but the trunk is completely gone. The roof has
had too great of a load on it, so it is dented down some what. I am missing
the front fender extentions on both doors and the lower rocker arm cover
panels. I also am in need of a good bumper shop (or new bumpers).
So, as you can see the body is in tough shape. The hood, rear fenders,
trunk lid are good. The doors are rusty, with approx. a 3" X 3" triangle
part rusted out of the front bottom. I have the majority of the chrome
(the crome that goes on the top of the front fenders were broken and 1/2
missing on both of them). Also, I have had the steering wheel redone.
They did a good job! I just need the horn button. The speedometer
has been fixed, as well as the clock. I've had several window crank
handles rechromed, but I am missing two. So, what do you think?"
(Anyone have any parts or advice for Joe?)
