Rick did a nice job of sending in his info. I thought it might be interesting for you to see how the process of becoming registered actually works. Here's how this one went:
1-17-00
I like your site.  It is very well organized and complete.  I own two 1951 Chevy cars but also like Buicks and Pontiacs.  I am considering purchasing a 4 door 48 pontiac 2609.  The car is like a fastback (Fleetline).  Your websight gave me some great photos of similar cars, thank you.  I'll let you know next week if I buy it.  Thanks.

 1-17-00      Rick,
Glad you enjoyed the site. I would be happy to know that I played a part in converting a Chevy guy over to the Pontiac family!  If you do buy the car please be sure to send a photo and the ID plate info. I am busy right now finishing up a webpage for a 47-2607. Which would be the same body as the one you are looking at (Streamliner) but with only half the doors. You should see a Torpedo next to a Streamliner. Only 3 inches longer wheelbase but it is cool to see how/where they stretched the body to make it 10 inches longer from bumper to bumper. Streamliners sure are long looking dudes!
Good luck and I hope to hear back from you soon.

It looks like I have just purchased the 48 Pontiac which I told you about last week.  It will be shipped from Missouri to North Carolina sometime in February.  Shortly after that, I'll send you photos and ID info.  Apparently the 70-year old gentleman who owned the car lives in Kansas.  Time to make some room in the garage!  Thanks.
The photo above also arrived on the 20th attached to this note:
Here is the photo from hemmings.  It is not large.  I'll take some more once it arrives.  Thanks.

1-20-00     Rick,
Wow! It looks like a real beauty. Did you get a chance to inspect it yet? I had to do a double take as I thought it might be a 48 that was already registered with the site. Here is a link to a 2-door look alike that is also for sale (at the last I heard):          http://www.pcmagic.net/torpedo1/Mackay482607D.htm
Well, all looks great and I will be looking forward to getting your ID numbers and a larger photo.

Later on that same day:
I got a video tape of the car before I decided to buy it.  I pretty much bought it without being able to climb under and check it all out.  Thanks.
On 2-14-00 Rick's signup form arrived. That info is in the box above.
Below is some additional info that came with the form.
This car is from Topeka, Kansas where it was purchased new.  The style number is actually 48-2609DH.  I don't know what the H means.  It seems to run very well and has many accessories like windshield washer, fog lights, clock, radio antenna, under-hood light and dome light switch.  The third owner said he re-painted the car, replaced the interior and rebuilt the engine at 54,000 miles.  I plan to undercoat the body and replace one fog light bulb which is the only thing that does not work on the car.  The cracked spare may also need replacement.  It will be a good companion for my 51 Chevy and both cars will be driven on weekends around Newton, NC.  I found the website while looking for photos of similar cars.
On 2-14-00 I also got this message:
I submitted the numbers but have not taken any more photos of the car since it's arrival in NC due to bad weather.  As soon as we get some nice sunshine, I'll get the car out of the garage for photos.  It will probably be two weeks before I get them developed, scanned and submitted.  Thanks
And later that day Rick observed:
The Production numbers paint a very interesting picture of Pontiac's post-war production.  It is amazing how the production of eight cylinder cars increases from 75,490 in 1946 to 197,199 in 1948.  It is also interesting how the Atlanta, Georgia plant began with Streamliners only in 1947.  I think the 1948 box for Streamliner Eights had Michigan twice.  The second one should probably be Delaware.  Thanks.

That prompted this reply:
Rick,
Your webpage is next in line and I started to work on it and found no signup form (alas) and then it showed up in my inbox! I can update the photo whenever you send a new one.
Your car does have the tag error as the large plate shows 2609 and it should be 2809. Your car is one that was intended for a 6 cyl. but like you noted, many people just had to have the bigger 8 cyl.   Good for them!
As to the 2609D"H" I had previouly assumed that it might have noted an accessory package but after reading your message I think now that it may designate a Hydramatic. The "H" has been noted by a few other owners. I will have to check if any were 42-47's which would disprove the Hydramatic theory. If it does show the Hydramatic, not all plants used it as it would be much more common. Your car was made at one of the smaller plants (Kansas City) so I will have to try to figure what plants used the "H" on their plates.
I wish I had stressed how important every character is when sending numbers to me and I wish I had started tracking them from the beginning. I have a good database for the other numbers but the uncommon ones (the "H" and anything in the ACC space) do not have a place on the signup form.
And thanks for the heads up on the Place of Manufacture page. It was probably a copy and paste error. Jim Kilby's father has sent the missing numbers for the 42's (weight and price) and I need to update that page also.

That brings us to where we are now. I will post the page you see here and send the link to Rick so he can check out the page before I put it on the homepage. You should see the link there tomorrow if Rick is as prompt as he has been! This may be a record for a quick turn around. The signup form came in this morning and it is almost midnight now and it will be online in about....45 seconds!

        Rick,
Thanks for all the good work. I wish they could all be this easy to get online! And good luck with your Pontiac. It looks like a real beauty.            -Don
