Here is what Irvin wrote me:
    Dear Don,                                                                                                                     1/9/99
Per Art Klug's letter of 10/9/98 - Thanks again Art for another beautiful Pontiac that found our site! -Don
Enclosed is info on my '47 Pontiac, for you to put on the website registry. Also a little info on some of the personal facts. I got the car from my mother on 1980 after she stopped driving. It had about 42,000 miles on it. Except for some dents in the fenders, it was in good condition. I tuned it up, cleaned it up and my wife and I started using it as a fun car. The following year we joined P.O.C.I.
In 1985 we gave it a cosmetic restoration. Repaint, reupholstered, detailed and we started showing it in competition. We have entered it in shows from Florida to Niagra Falls. We have never trailered it, except a couple of times we put it on the Auto-train to Florida and back. We have driven it 33,000 miles. We don't show it as much as in the past, but still enjoy it.
The car has won four POCI National Convention First Place Awards, AACA- Senior and 18 preservations and AACA Grand National Third Place.

Nice Historical Photo! In case you weren't sure, that is the East Wing of the U.S. Capitol building in the background.
I seem to recall reading about this car in the POCI publication "Smoke Signals". It was quite a few years ago, and I think it may have been when it won 1st Place at one of the Nat'l Conventions. I can't remember the year but I think it was the one in Washington D.C.   Real nice, Congratulations !

Up on my soapbox
Just another thought - It seems to turn out more often than not that our Pontiacs are passed down from family members as in Irvin's and my own case. I don't know if this is a Pontiac thing or common to all makes of cars. I would never have started in this hobby if it weren't for my wifes grandfathers 47 wagon just sitting there looking at me with those puppy-dog eyes! There are several other first-time restorers in our registry working on cars that have been in thier families for a long time, so maybe we are more ambitious than the people who just go out and buy a turn-key Chevys or Fords. That is another reason that these Pontiacs are so special! - Don
Down off my soapbox
Apologies to Irvin for using this space for that.
