Decoding Your Pontiac Identification Plate
If you need help locating your numbers here is a photo that points them out.
Your cars identification numbers can be found on the plate which is located on the drivers side of the firewall. Write these numbers down and go to the sign-up page to join the detailed registry. This page will explain what all the numbers tell us about your car.

One interesting thing about your tag is that some cars stamped as 25 and 26 models ( indicating a 6 cyl.) came with eight cylinder engines. This was apparently to meet increased public demand for the bigger engine. The tags were prestamped and already on the cars. The tags should have read 26 or 28 series. My 47 2507 did in fact come with an 8 cyl. engine and should have been stamped 2707. I have put a question about this in the sign-up page, so let me know if this also happened to your car.

The tag below is from a sedan that I parted out in 1993. It was in very bad shape but so was the 2507 that needed a frame. The coupe had been in a very bad accident and had been lowered and the frame had been c-channeled with four or five holes cut in the floorpan to make clearance for the rear axle. I welded the holes up and put the other frame underneath. Both cars were probably destined for the crusher (very popular out here in California) so at least I saved one of them.  I could go on, but that's another story for another time!

Style no.- First 2 digits tell the year. Last 4 the model number.  See the Model Info page for a chart showing all models. 1948 Deluxe models had the letter "D" after the last 4 digits.

Body no.- This show the production plant and number of the body.

Trim no.- I believe 71 designated the standard interior. If you have any other info please send it to me.

Paint no.- Again the first 2 digits are the year. The last 2 are the paint color and scheme. See the Paint Code page for a list of all the colors and combinations
